History
Decades of change have shaped General Power Construction Co. into a top Central Illinois prime contractor.
We have adapted to a shifting economy and evolving technology by developing a broad range of construction expertise over the years. Our lineage in the mechanical construction industry dates back to the 1930s. Management roots from that time to the present span four generations.
In 1979, as General Piping Corporation, we began operating as a piping contractor specializing in power and industrial process piping. However, the slowdown in commercial and industrial construction in the late 1970s and early 1980s prompted management to pursue other opportunities. We responded to the sluggish local economy by restructuring into a full-service single-source provider. This transition allowed our company to prosper during a difficult time.
In order to better service our customers, General Piping Corporation purchased the former Kaiser Concrete building in East Peoria, IL, in 1979. This site housed our offices and fabrication shop for 25 years. During this time, our power generation division experienced significant growth as we began working on the maintenance and repair of boilers and associated equipment.

In 1983, we changed our name to General Power Construction Co. to reflect the expansion of our business into other diverse areas of power generation and industrial construction, maintenance, repair, and retrofit. That same year, we began fabricating and erecting structural steel. In 1985, we launched our electrical division, further expanding our services as a single-source prime contractor.
By 2005, this rapid growth necessitated the move to our current address at 901 S. Bosch Road in Peoria, IL. This site houses our offices, fabrication shop, and warehouse storage. Our convenient location near the airport and I-474 allows us to serve our customers more efficiently.
Through decades of change, we have maintained our commitment to providing the attentive service expected from a local, family business. In addition to efficient project management, we provide world-class construction capabilities that come from years of experience and frequent investments in state-of-the-art equipment.
Employing union craftsmen from a variety of trades allows us to consistently deliver high-quality, cost-effective results. Adding highly organized project managers and experienced safety professionals to the equation reduces the likelihood of injuries, downtime, and unnecessary expenses. These measures have helped General Power Construction Co. build a reputation for dependability, competence, and efficiency. We look forward to meeting the commercial and industrial construction needs of Central Illinois for many years to come.
